Winter

We've had three snow events in Durham since December and for us, that is unusual. We've had years when we didn't see one speck of snow flake! There there was that one year, almost ten years ago when we had 3 feet fall on us overnight. This year though, we're having an almost typical winter weather with lots of rain and gray skies and some snow fall.

I love to watch snow falling! I love how it blankets everything with its whiteness and makes it all pretty. I don't like having to go out and drive through it though. Thank goodness the whole city shuts down everytime we have a little bit of snow. Another reason I don't like snow is when it gets so darn cold my eczema flares up. I hate itching!

Overall though, I enjoy the change in seasons. I'm just glad that winter is the shortest season. It sure feels really long though.

Another Snow Day A Comin'

Anything Can Happen
Wouldn't you know it, it snows while I was away in California.

I missed the first snow this season as I was in sunny, 80 degrees sunshine Los Angeles. It's supposed to snow again tonight and I am actually looking forward to it. I am rushing to finish things around here in the office just in case we have a snow day tomorrow and we don't come to work. Am I being overly optimistic? I hope now :)

Most people in colder climes have been complaining of the cold and snow, and I really do feel bad for the people who right now do not have power due to the winter weather, but here in the South where we don't get much snow, I can't help but look forward to seeing some white on the ground. I am lining up some soup and chili recipes and even some breads in case we have a snow day.

Sunny Days

It seems we're not the only ones having strange weather for this time of year. I heard from family and friends that it's raining in Southern California. It's snowing in Vancouver, and it's sunny here in North Carolina. Go figure!

The Dry Spell Continues

Durham is still in a severe drought status. It's been cold, it snowed a bit last week but still no substantial rain. The lakes and other water reservoirs are still several feet below normal. Lately the only showers we've been getting are the kind in the bathroom. Today, they (the city) were giving away truckloads of water saving (low flow) shower heads. Too bad they weren't giving out Grohe faucets or I would have gone out in the cold to line up for one. Although, if I had one of those fancy faucets, I would have to build a whole new, fancy house around it. :)

Hot Tubs in December?

Today, almost midway through December, the weather here in Durham is sunny and warm. It is supposed to reach 80 degrees today! I'm not complaining, mind you, I love warm weather! I just wish I could have stayed home or somewhere outside on this beautiful day instead of being stuck indoors and at work.

My husband was even talking about grilling out today. Before you know it, people will be firing up their hot tubs! LOL!

I'm crossing my fingers that something will come up and I will get to leave early today so I can get some sun before it sets.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, y'all!!

Well, we're back. We started out the year on the beach, how great is that!

However, that time in the sun was short lived. We are now back in the midst of winter in North Carolina, not that it's all bad or anything.
This was taken last Jan 18 (ignore the time stamp, I forgot to reset the camera), of our backyard. Our first snow of the season.

As much fun as we had over the holidays, we are glad to be back home and being in our own space again.

Aside from seeing the hubby, hot running water, and sleeping in our own beds again, it sure was nice to come home to this:

Although due to plain ole laziness I have gotten out of the habit of sending out Christmas cards, it was still nice to come home to a box full of well wishes. This group of cards was especially nice because I haven't met many of the senders yet I feel like they are all old friends. They are all from blogging friends from all over the world. You know who you generous people are, thank you very much.

The email inbox was also equally full of well wishes, thank you all who graciously sent greetings and even shared family photos. I really enjoyed seeing your beautiful faces.

Oh, and if you're wondering what that tidbits book is doing in the mix, well, it really was in the mix of mail I opened when we returned from vacation. It's my FREE copy of The Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain courtesy of Amstel Light. What a treat to come home to, eh?

I've acutally been home for over two weeks now, and I am just getting around to posting something so bear with me. I'll have lots of vacation photos to share soon.

The new blogger is messing with my Our Kitchen blog, so I also have to see if I can get that straightened out. If you've left a comment for me in the kitchen, I'm sorry to say that it is probably lost in bloggerland. The blog hasn't been taking any comments. Oh well.

On a higher note, while we were gone, we were voted Pinoy blog of the week! The Composed Gentleman runs a weekly poll of Filipino blogs and readers vote for their favorite. Thank you, talksmart, for nominating this blog.
